Power Ledger and green energy retailer ekWateur have partnered to offer a unique opportunity to the French consumers: choosing their energy mix.
ekWateur was founded in 2015 on the idea to create a collaborative energy supplier. Established on the values of transparent and ethical sourcing, ekWateur has a 100% renewable portfolio and is striving to contribute to the decentralisation of the energy industry.
From its modest beginnings with only 50 customers, ekWateur has seen rapid growth, scaling up from 1,000 meters in 2017 to 120,000 in 2019, and 220,000 in 2020. In just two years, ekWateur became France’s fifth largest and leading green supplier. In the first commercial success, ekWateur won the contract to supply 54 public buildings in France, such as Météo France, the Picasso museum, Institut National de l’Audiovisuel, Voies Navigables de France and Château de Chambord. Recognition for their innovative approach soon followed: ekWateur won the 2018 CHARGE Award, as the ‘Best Green Brand’, and the title of ‘Best Green Supplier’ for 2018 – 2019 by Selectra.
Moving beyond their role of a green retailer, ekWateur is actively working on empowering their customers, by providing tips and tools to manage their daily consumption better and reduce their carbon footprint. Power Ledger’s software is taking the empowerment further by allowing ekWateur’s customers to choose their mix by source, location and the amount of energy.

How the technology works
Power Ledger’s platform empowers end consumers to have full transparency and control over their energy sourcing process, by choosing the source, location and the amount of energy they consume. The consumers are also able to choose locally sourced renewable energy from their neighbours’ or family’s rooftop solar panels!

The matching is done instantaneously and settled every thirty minutes.
